　アメリカでは1月、ヨーロッパでは少し遅れて2月に入って発売になったアムネスティ・インターナショナル設立50周年記念のボブ・ディラン・カヴァー集。ほんの少しだけアメリカ盤より安かったという理由でヨーロッパ盤を予約していたのだが、某ショップが予約分を確保していなかったために出荷が遅れ、私の手元に届いたのは2月の20日頃だった。早速聴き始めたものの、何せ4枚組全73トラック、トータルでゆうに5時間を超えるボリューム。チビチビ聴いているうちに3月になってしまった。

　収録曲は上記の通り。4枚目の最後に入っているディラン自身の「Chimes Of Freedom」はお馴染み『Another Side of Bob Dylan』に収録されているテイクと同じもの。2枚目収録のジョーン・バエズ「Seven Curses」は彼女の92年のアルバム『Play Me Backwards』の2枚組リイシュー盤（2011年リリース）に収録されていたものと同一。それ以外の71トラックはこのアルバムでしか聴けないものだ。
　もちろんこのアルバムはディラン公認であり、現在ディランの公式サイトへアクセスするとトップページに大きくアルバム・ジャケットを掲載し、大々的に告知されている。またディランの公式Twitterアカウントのアイコンも、このジャケット写真が使われている。ディラン側の全面的な協力の下、実現した作品のようだ。
　参加アーティストの顔ぶれを見ても分かるように、老若男女、音楽的傾向も多種多様、著名ミュージシャンも多数で、さすがにディランとアムネスティの取り合わせでなければこれだけの面子は揃わなかっただろう。


Make You Feel My Love

　これは先般グラミー賞主要部門を独占したアデルによる「Make You Feel My Love」。彼女のデビュー・アルバム『19』でもこの曲は取り上げられており、後にシングル・カットされてヒットもしたが、ここでは未発表のライヴ・テイクで収録されている。ディランのオリジナルは『Time Out of Mind』の収録曲だ。
　アデル自身のヴォーカルの上手さもさることながら、楽曲の美しさに改めて感銘を受けた。アデルのこの曲は象徴的だが、4枚組のアルバムを聴いて実感したのはメロディ・メイカーとしてのディランの底力であった。
　参加アーティストはディランの楽曲をそれぞれ自分の土俵へ持ち込んで、独特の解釈でカヴァーしている。それぞれの持ち味、注ぎ込まれたアイディアは聴きものではあるのだが、どんなにアレンジが施してあっても案外メロディは崩されていない曲が多い。相手が相手だけに畏れ多くて…ということもあるだろうが、ここは崩してしまうにはもったいない美メロだからと解釈したい。それだけにディラン本人はライヴになると原型を留めないほどメロディを破壊してしまうのが不思議でならない。


With God On Our Side

　ソマリア出身でカナダで活動するラッパー、ケイナーンによる「神が味方」。これも美しいっすなー。
　収録曲のほとんどはBob LudwigとAdam Ayanという2人の著名エンジニアによってポートランドの同一スタジオでマスタリングされているせいか、音の質感に統一性がある。世代も音楽性も雑多な曲が73トラックも収録されていながら、ちぐはぐな印象を受けないのもこの作品の秀逸なポイントだ。
